The warm days of Summer are upon us, which means it is time to get outdoors, enjoy the sunshine and get out of the rut that came with the cold months that seemingly just passed, but are yet again on the horizon. For many, Summer is a time to get fit and live a healthy life. People take to parks and other areas in order to exercise while it is still possible- before the rain and the cold weather sets in. Likewise, Summer is also a good time to change those eating habits and to start eating healthier foods that will keep you motivated and energized throughout the Summer, and will thus allow you to better enjoy everything that Summer has to offer. Summer is prime picnic season, which just begs for healthy food to be consumed. Indeed, there is something about Summer that just makes one want to be healthy and fit. No one wants to waste a Summer, that is the very definition of a bummer.
Is there anything more refreshing than a ripe watermelon. The juicyness and tender insides make it one of the Summer food staples. On top of all that, watermelons are extremely healthy and relatively inexpensive for how much food you get from one watermelon. Watermelons are composed of 90% water, which means it is almost like drinking a ton of water at one time, and thus will keep you hydrated while soaking up the rays outdoors. They also have vitamins A, B6 and C in large quantities, and like all melons, they are very high in antioxidants, which help fight cancer and a host of other ailments and diseases. Better yet, watermelons have the tendency to kick the libido into high gear and increase overall blood flow. You can not go wrong with that!
Another Summer staple. Whether eaten on its own, in a salad or in a sandwich, the tomato is an overall very healthy food. They have a lot of vitamin C, beta carotene and lycopene. Indeed, the tomato is one of nature’s great superfoods, as its health properties are immense in just about every regard. The key is to eat them raw, rather than cooked- as they lose many of those healthy properties once cooked.
Whether they are strawberries, blueberries or any other kind of berry, they all have great health benefits inside of them. There are tons of different kinds of berries available during the Summer, so what ever your taste is, there is a berry that can probably meet it. Berries are low in calories, high in vitamin C and antioxidants, among many other beneficial properties.
Like berries, there are a host of different peppers that can meet your tastes and your health in the process. Sweet peppers in particular are very high in vitamins A, B6 and C, as well as high in fiber and antioxidants. For spicy lovers, spicy peppers are also very beneficial to one’s health.
Peaches are so yummy and are packed with vitamins, antioxidants and other things that will make you healthier.
