USB-C is finally being admitted as a universal standard by many of the smartphones, and USB-C port now gets added to many of the other new digital devices too. In fact, type C is not only a better method of charging a mobile device, but it is also phasing out the extra headphone jack and acts as a high-speed data transfer mechanism. Let’s have a close look at type C OTG and its features.

Type C USB

If you own an electronic gadget that plugs into something, then there are high chances that this connection is made through USB. From the conventional desktop PCs to even the portable storage devices, Type C OTG USB connectivity becomes the key. There are high-capacity USB memories now which can stick to laptops and act as memory extension to even smartphones.

One of the latest updates to an ever-evolving technology of US was the standard came out in 2013, which was USB 3.1, and it was accompanied by the new standard of USB-C connectors. It has later become the default connection standard in more devices and being rigorously followed now.

It was Apple Company, which helped to kick off of the adoption of this standard by using it on their 12-inch MacBook, which had a single USB-C port to connect to the peripherals and also as the powering port. Latest other companies too incorporated it into their models as LG G5, and HTC 10 came out with USB-C integrated into their design. Later, Google Pixel and Galaxy Note 7 also followed the suite by being compliant with type C OTG.

There are many types of Type C OTG connector devices, cables, hubs are available now to serve various purposes. But, what makes USB-C more acceptable than predecessors. Let us dig to explore why in detail.

USB-C is not a simple upgrade

The first thing you should know about USB-C would be the fact that it is not another simple upgraded USB standard, which is developed in the same line of the previous USB 1.1, USB 2.0, USB 3.0  or the latest USB 3.1. The previous upgrades of USB were more focusing on redefining what a digital connection can do to enhance speed and features. However, USB-C came with a different concept of improving physical connection as like micro USB and then mini USB.

However, the critical difference in terms of USB-C when compared to micro USB and mini USB is that USB-C is focused more on being a one-stop replacement for both ends of the cable.

At the latest, type-C also received another boost with the release of Thunderbolt 3 back in 2015. Intel unveiled this newest version based on USB Type-C connector, which gives all the same benefits with a brand new reversible look. However, as Thunderbolt needs a circuitry in its cable, it may not be entirely interoperable with all of the Type-C OTG.

Now, there are a lot of type C OTG connectors, cables, and hubs are available in the market, which you can choose through online stores too based on your requirement. However, check for all the specifications as well as the list of compatible devices to ensure that you buy the right product for your purpose.
